How to Really Fish How to Make Money Quest: 3 Clams Walkthrough

Complete the How to Make Money opening objective in How to Really Fish: find 3 clams on the Forest Island beach, cook them at the campfire, sell to Fisherman Joe, and check completion.

The How to Make Money quest in How to Really Fish requires you to find 3 clams on the Forest Island beach and sell them to the Fisherman. Cook each clam at the campfire before selling (a cooked Clam was recorded at $2), then sell all three to Fisherman Joe and check your objective and cash balance to confirm the task is done.

Reaching the objective

Every run starts in the lobby. Step onto the yellow platform to join a boat party, watch its current counter, let the STARTING IN countdown finish, and the game teleports you to Forest Island. Both 4/4 and 2/2 countdown screens have been observed, so follow the counter shown in your session instead of waiting for a universal party size. The opening objective appears there: HOW TO MAKE MONEY, with the instruction "Find 3 clams and sell them to the Fisherman". It names a specific quantity (three) and a specific sale — it is not the broader money-making loop that follows it.

Collecting the three clams

  1. Look for clams on the Forest Island beach where you spawn. They are shoreline collectibles, not fish you catch with the rod.
  2. Pick up three clams. They are the easiest opening target because they are already available around the beach.
  3. Don't confuse clams with rod-caught catches: they're sold to the fisherman like catches, but obtained as shoreline collectibles.
  4. No fixed spawn points or timers can be relied on — search the beach visually.

Cooking the clams at the campfire

Selling raw clams works, but cooking raises the displayed sale value, so stop at the campfire first.

  1. Drop each clam onto the campfire.
  2. Look for a confirmation message such as "Cooked the Clam! Now worth $2..." — this is your proof the item registered as cooked.
  3. If you don't see the confirmation, the item isn't cooked and will sell for less.

The $2 cooked Clam value is a recorded example from play reports, not a guaranteed fixed price; read the amount the game shows you.

Selling to Fisherman Joe and checking completion

  1. Take the cooked clams to Fisherman Joe on Forest Island, the opening buyer and shopkeeper.
  2. Interact with him and sell the clams using the menu your game displays — the same menu also lets you browse upgrades and see your cash balance.
  3. After the sale, check the objective and your cash balance. Collecting and cooking are separate steps from selling — a cooking notification is not a sale receipt.
  4. The objective is complete once the three-clam sale is satisfied and you can proceed to the next on-screen prompt. No separate bonus reward beyond the sale proceeds is documented.

What this objective is and isn't

This is a one-time opening objective, not a recurring income method. Completing it teaches the sell-to-fisherman interaction the whole game reuses, but it isn't an earning strategy by itself. After the clams, the same three steps — catch or collect, cook, sell to Fisherman Joe — continue with rod-caught fish such as Carp, Emo Fish and Bream. Recorded values vary between catches even in the same run, so read the displayed amount for your own item rather than planning around a published price. The game is in beta, so recheck the required quantity, pickup behavior, and completion condition after updates.
